Step-by-Step Tutorial

Hair Stylists Bob Recine

Photographer: John Perez

INSPIRATION: The look for Marina Moscone show was to represent an individualist look – easy and understated. We wanted the models to each have an individual style from their dress to their hair. We left some hair natural and then created a sleek half up for others.

TIPS/TECHNIQUE:
STEP 1: I started Gemma with dry hair and began to brush her strands out with the Olivia Garden iDetangle Brush to get rid of any unwanted knots. I then sprayed a generous amount of the volume Spray all around Gemma’s crown and face to create texture. Next, I started to blowout Gemma’s hair using the Olivia Garden Ceramic + Ion Hair Dryer. As I was blow drying, I used the Olivia Garden EcoHair Brush to continue to create volume around Gemma’s face. Since we wanted to make sure there was enough texture throughout Gemma’s hair, I sprayed the Dry Shampoo to even out softness and volume.

STEP 2: Once Gemma’s hair was fully blown out and had enough volume, I use a ¾ inch barrel curling iron and slowly wrapped pieces of hair around it while letting them down gently with my hands to create messy waves. I then applied a small amount of the Dry Shampoo Texturizing Paste into the palms of my hands and began to add it to the crown and back part of Gemma’s hair to reduce any frizz. I used the Olivia Garden Style-Up Folding Teasing Brush to ensure the product was evenly distributed. Once Gemma’s waves were complete, I gathered her hair into a low ponytail and secured it with a thin elastic right at the back of her neck. Once the ponytail was secured, I started to twist a few pieces of the pony tail creating a lose knot right above the nape of neck. Since we wanted this look to feel effortless, I made sure to leave a few stray pieces that would fall naturally. To finish off the look, I sprayed the Hairspray all over to ensure hold throughout the night.

STEP 1: Begin with dry natural hair and use the EcoHair Combo Paddle Brush to brush out.

STEP 2: Apply mousse and section it with the Double Clips to create body.

STEP 3: Next, use the Ceramic+ion Hair Dryer to blow dry the hair and evenly distribute product throughout using the Olivia Garden FingerBrush.

STEP 4: Once product is dispersed, take the hair at the center and upper part of the head and gently brush it back with the Ceramic+ion Supreme Combo Brush smoothing all bumps.

STEP 5: Then gather the hair and secure gently with a thin elastic leaving the remaining hair down and behind the ears.

STEP 6: Lastly, apply hair spray to tame flyaways.
